Arsenal will be interested in signing Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling with the Premier League champions allegedly willing to sell.
That’s according to the Daily Star, who claim that City are prepared to ‘reluctantly’ listen to offers for Sterling this summer.
Sterling is now inside the final 18 months of his contract at City and a new deal doesn’t look likely as things stand.
City now feel that, if a new deal isn’t sorted by the summer, they will simply have to sell Sterling for a knockdown price.
Sterling would then be valued at just £50million given that he can leave for nothing in 2023 – and Arsenal are talked up as a destination.
It’s stated that Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal will all be hoping to sign Sterling if he becomes available.
Arsenal taking on Real and PSG for Sterling sounds difficult, but the Gunners may just hope to pull off a deal.
Sterling worked with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta at Manchester City and that connection could help the Gunners in this race.
Pep Guardiola admitted in 2017 that Sterling had been working closely with Arteta to improve himself at the Etihad Stadium.
Sterling may well remember that work with Arteta, and joining forces with the Spaniard could be very appealing.
Still, Arsenal would surely need Champions League football in order to win the battle for Sterling’s signature.
At 27, Sterling doesn’t want to be dropping into the Europa League. He needs Champions League football and plenty of it.
Arsenal are at least pushing for the top four, but that connection with Arteta may only get them so far in the battle for a big Premier League name.
