Newcastle United have landed a possibly big boost in their chase of Wout Weghorst, as FC Copenhagen have confirmed VFL Wolfsburg have submitted a bid for Jonas Wind’s transfer.
The Danish Superliga giants announced on Saturday that Die Wolfe are in active talks over a last-ditch move for Wind. Byens Hold have not accepted a bid from the Bundesliga outfit as of yet. But Florian Kohfeldt is pushing for the 22-year-old’s arrival at the Volkswagen Arena.
Wind is enjoying a superb season domestically and in Europe with 11 goals and six assists so far. The 12-cap Dane has struck six of his efforts in the Superliga, plus five struck during Europa Conference League fixtures. His efforts helped Copenhagen to finish atop Group F.

Wolfsburg are pushing for Wind’s late transfer from Copenhagen amid reported interest in Weghorst from Newcastle and relegation rivals Burnley. Kicker reported in December that the Magpies are keeping an eye on the Dutchman’s situation after he switched agents.
However, Burnley have since joined Newcastle and the Daily Mail report Sean Dyche’s side are confident of sealing Weghorst’s transfer. The Turf Moor hierarchy are in talks with Die Wolfe over a deal for the 29-year-old centre-forward, who has seven goals so far this term.
Wind to Wolfsburg will boost Newcastle and Burnley’s Weghorst hopes
Burnley begun targeting Weghorst after Newcastle signed Chris Wood in a £25m move that frustrated Dyche. The Toon angered the Clarets boss by triggering his release clause and Wood accepting a move to a relegation rival.

Initial talks between Burnley and Wolfsburg over Weghorst’s transfer broke down. But the Turf Moor natives revived talks, with the 12-cap Netherlands forward eager to move to the Premier League.
Wolfsburg now advancing their talks with Copenhagen for Wind will also boost Newcastle and Burnley’s Weghorst transfer hopes. The 12-cap Denmark forward can serve as the Dutchman’s replacement at the Volkswagen Arena and free up his departure.
