Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka will not join Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in the January transfer window.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that despite rumours linking Xhaka with a move to Roma now, the Switzerland international midfielder will stay at Arsenal.
Romano has added that former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho wanted to sign the 29-year-old midfielder in the summer of 2021.
Granit Xhaka stay at Arsenal
Sensible decision
In our view, it was always – and is – very, very, very unlikely that Xhaka will leave Arsenal in the middle of the season.
It simply is not going to happen.
No way.

Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign a new midfielder and has been strongly linked with Juventus’s Arthur Melo.
So why would the Gunners sell one of their senior midfielders now?
It simply does not make sense.
Xhaka – who cost Arsenal £30 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Borussia Monchengladbach in May 2016 (Sky Sports) – may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he is a regular under manager Mikel Arteta.
When he is fit and available.
And not suspended because of the red cards that he tends to pick up so needlessly.
The Arsenal no. 34 has provided one assist in 10 Premier League matches for Arsenal so far this season.
