One month into the new year and Netflix has already given us so many movies and shows to devour.
No matter your genre, there has been something to cherish and, once again, the streaming platform has proven to be important in championing international productions.
One of the latest to demand our attention is In From the Cold. Created by Adam Glass, the original series hit screens on Friday, January 28th 2022 and follows an American mother who is confronted with her past life as a Russian spy. After the CIA discovers her secret she is faced with returning to a life of danger and intrigue in order to save her family.
Viewers are racing through episodes, and while doing so, some can’t help but contemplate filming locations. With that in mind, let’s consider where In From the Cold was filmed…
In From the Cold filming locations explained
In From the Cold was filmed entirely in Madrid, Spain.
The Spanish capital has long been a popular filming destination and those who are deep into the series will be aware of just how important the city’s role is within the narrative.
However, the fact that the whole production was shot there may come as a surprise considering an essential setting was Moscow, the capital of Russia.
Instead of globetrotting and raising the budget, the crew did their best to pass off Madrid locations as Moscow, creating the illusion of being in Madrid one minute and Moscow the next despite never leaving Spain.
The project was initially scheduled to begin shooting in March 2020 but was delayed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. They eventually got the ball rolling in Madrid in February 2021 and the shoot lasted for 14 weeks, wrapping in May.
They benefited from having a home-city technical team and audiences can finally enjoy what they’ve achieved.

“I really enjoyed the whole process
During a conversation with CBR, Cillian O’Sullivan (who plays Chauncey) opened up about the most fulfilling element of working on the series.
“Pulling back those layers, for me, was very fun,” he explained. “I really enjoyed the whole process and journey as an actor. That sounds like such a cliche thing to say, but I really did.”
Similarly, Charles Brice (Chris) echoed this sentiment during the same interview:
“We’re kind of saying the same thing, but it’s that human element that I feel like this show brings to the spy genre. You connect to it. I feel like it’s easy for the audience to connect because we give you actual deep, real characters.”
Indeed, this is a world that many audiences will wish to revisit.
In From the Cold is now streaming on Netflix.
