According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Newcastle are interested in bringing Napoli forward Victor Osimhen to the Premier League.

What’s the story?

Well, Newcastle are finding things difficult in the market right now, as Amanda Staveley tries to help the Magpies avoid relegation.

A deal for Jesse Lingard has hit the rocks, while Newcastle’s pursuits of Sven Botman and Diego Carlos have also been unsuccessful.

Now, Newcastle have turned their attention to Osimhen, who Napoli paid a club-record €81.3m (£68m) for.

Gazzetta dello Sport believe the Magpies wanted to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. However, the Serbian now looks set to join Juventus.

Now, the 18-cap Nigeria international is in Eddie Howe’s sights.

So far this season, Osimhen has scored nine goals in 16 appearances, while also providing two assists.

What could Victor Osimhen bring to Newcastle?

In our view, Osimhen is tailor made for the Premier League.

The 23-year-old is quick, his movement is exquisite, and he is a fantastic finisher in front of goal.

It’s no wonder Napoli paid such a huge fee for him – clearly, the Serie A side have very high hopes for their No.9.

Interestingly, Osimhen has even been described as the new Didier Drogba by former Italy striker Giuseppe Signori.

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, Signori said: “They look a lot like each other physically and technically. He is good, he has everything: technique, strength, elevation, speed and power.”

The Ivorian won four Premier League titles during his time in England, scoring 104 Premier League goals.

In that respect, if Osimhen is even 30% of the player Drogba was, Newcastle should try their very hardest to sign him.

Keep an eye on this saga, as anything could happen over the next week.
