Liverpool have reportedly received a big boost about Luis Diaz, amid speculation about a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Porto attacker has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks.
Earlier in January it was reported that the Anfield outfit had agreed to pay an ‘astronomical fee‘ to bring the Colombia international – valued at £50 million – to Merseyside.
However, Tottenham have emerged as a serious contender for his signature in recent days.
Spurs have been in talks with the Portuguese outfit about signing the South American, who has 16 goals across all competitions this season.
Boost
But here’s the good news for Liverpool.
According to Record in Portugal, the 25-year-old winger has decided to reject a transfer to Tottenham in a bid to protect a summer move to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Diaz believes that Liverpool will make a move for him when the window reopens in June and is prepared to reject the North Londoners in January to ensure that dream is kept alive.
Exciting
Indeed, it is very exciting.
Let’s be honest, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah won’t be in their pomp forever and it’s about time that Klopp and Michael Edwards – who is leaving this summer – plan for the future.
In all probability, Diaz won’t be as effective for Liverpool as Salah, but he’s already having a much better season than the Senegal international.
Mane has scored 10 goals and set up just one across 26 outings across all competitions this season.
Diaz, on the other hand, has 16 goals and six assists from 28 appearances in all competitions.
Of course, Mane is playing in different tournaments for the most part, but it’s all relative and if Liverpool do wind up paying £50 million for him, it’ll be with a belief that he could be effective in the Premier League.
