Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule has rejected a move to Newcastle United as he attempts to wait until the end of the season for a transfer.

That’s according to Bild’s Christian Falk, who claims Sule has refused to join Newcastle in this month’s transfer window.

Sule is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with Newcastle on a number of occasions in recent months.

Falk reported in November that Sule was interested in a move to Newcastle and had held preliminary talks over a move.

Sule seems to have changed his mind though, and has made it clear that he won’t be joining Newcastle this month.

With just days of the window left to go, Newcastle still don’t have a new centre back signed up.

Moves for the likes of Diego Carlos, Sven Botman, Benoit Badiashile and Nico Schlotterbeck have proven difficult to complete.

It now seems that Sule is heading the same way, with the 26-year-old deciding against a Newcastle switch before Monday’s deadline.

Sule has won four Bundesliga titles and is now on course for a fifth, but he still wants to leave the Bavarian giants.

Out of contract this summer, Sule will be leaving Bayern for free unless there is a shock change of heart.

Sule is a huge presence at 6ft 5in tall, offering a colossal aerial threat and a brick wall that few would want to pass.

Sule even has a turn of pace and can carry the ball, with Thomas Muller suggesting that he is ‘hard to stop’ when in full flight.

This would have been an enormous coup for Newcastle, but going for these big names so soon into their new project was always a risky policy.

Newcastle may have cash, but they are in danger of being relegated and can’t quite attract huge stars just yet.

If they stay up and Sule still doesn’t have a clear destination when his contract ends, Newcastle would be wise to have another go at signing the German ace.
