Antonio Conte will let Bryan Gil join Real Sociedad on loan once Tottenham Hotspur have finalised their agreement with Wolves for the transfer of Adama Traore, according to AS.
Real Sociedad are remaining attentive to events in north London as Imanol Alguacil looks to strengthen his Anoeta ranks. The Txuri-Urdin boss is keen to take Gil to San Sebastian as he seeks to cement a European berth, while Champions League qualification is still in reach.
Gil is closest to joining Real Sociedad should Fabio Paratici’s summer signing leave on loan before Monday’s deadline. The 20-year-old has struggled to gain a key role under either of Nuno Espirito Santo or Conte since leaving Sevilla. He cost Spurs £21.5m, plus Erik Lamela.
AS deem Gil’s transfer to Real Sociedad an ‘increasingly real possibility’, but still dependent on Tottenham signing Traore from Wolves. Otherwise, Conte will keep the 2019/20 Europa League winner in north London – despite Gil only playing 181-minuets under the Italian.
Real Sociedad do not have a sense of urgency to complete Gil’s temporary return to Spain. But Alguacil is eager to sign a forward after Ander Barrenetxea sustained a season-ending injury. Yet Barcelona may threaten the deal through their interest in now poaching Traore.
Traore transfer key to Real Sociedad loaning Gil from Tottenham
Intermediaries have offered Traore to Barcelona, which appeals to the Wolves winger who Tottenham missing out on will also deny Real Sociedad a loan transfer for Gil this month.
Barcelona are currently considering their next step, which may ultimately determine if Gil stays or leaves Conte’s fold. Tottenham are in a strong position to sign Traore from Wolves, though. Give Me Sport note the winger and Spurs have already agreed on personal terms.
Tottenham will pay Traore £120k-a-week and sign the Wolves ace on loan ahead of a £20m permanent transfer this summer. His arrival will also clear the way for Conte to give Gil the go-ahead to join Real Sociedad in search of more minutes over the second half of the term.
Reports by Mundo Deportivo earlier this week had claimed Gil wants to leave Tottenham ‘at all costs’ before Monday’s deadline. The winger is said to be unhappy in north London and struggling to adapt after his summer switch. But he seemed to rubbish those reports.
Gil replied on Twitter to Mundo Deportivo’s report simply with a couple of question marks and a laughing emoji. So, the Spaniard might yet want to stay and prove himself at Spurs.
