Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both fancy signing Bruno Guimaraes – but the Lyon man is now interested in signing for Newcastle United instead.

There seemed to be a few updates about Guimaraes on Tuesday, so let’s go through them.

Sky Sports reported that Arsenal haven’t given up hope of luring Guimaraes to North London before Monday’s transfer deadline.

They suggested that a deal could be done for around £25million, and the Gunners have been tracking him for two years at least.

That same report claimed that Tottenham also like Guimaraes as they look to sign a new midfielder for Antonio Conte.

Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso look set to leave, with Guimaraes potentially being eyed as a replacement.

There’s just one problem for the North London duo; Guimaraes seemingly fancies signing for Newcastle United in the coming days.

Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte claim that Lyon have accepted a huge bid of €40million (£33.5million) from Newcastle for Guimaraes.

That’s quite the increase on the £25million claimed by Sky Sports.

The Athletic have since added that Guimaraes does indeed fancy a move to Newcastle before Monday’s transfer deadline.

That would be quite the coup for Newcastle, who are seeking real quality throughout their team in order to avoid relegation.

Guimaraes, 24, has been a vital performer for Lyon since joining from Athletico Paranaense in 2020.

In 2020, Brazil boss Tite indicated that he thought Guimaraes could become another Kevin De Bruyne in midfield, proving what Brazil lacked.

That should be very exciting for Newcastle, who would absolutely love to have their own De Bruyne – much like anybody else would!

Guimaraes isn’t quite as devastating in the final third, but he can dictate the game from deep and could bring some control to Newcastle’s engine room if a deal is done in the coming days.
