Well, the latest news coming out of Rangers certainly isn’t positive.
Rangers hammered Stirling Albion 4-0 in their Scottish Cup opener this past weekend.
However, the victory came at a massive cost for the Gers.
Ianis Hagi, the light Blues’ attacker, has been ruled out for the season.
Hagi was forced off with a knock after only 15 minutes at Ibrox and the worst has since been confirmed by the Rangers manager.
Elaborating on the setback this morning, Giovanni van Bronckhorst described it as a ‘huge disappointment’ and that the player has undergone knee surgery in London.
He told The Scottish Sun: “It is a big blow and we miss an important player who is not available for the coming months.
“He was operated on in London. It’s a big blow and a huge disappointment for all of us, but of course for Ianis. This morning he is in a good place — though obviously he’s not happy that he has the injury and needed to be operated on.”
Crossroads
This could go either way for Rangers.
Either Hagi’s injury forces Van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson to spend on a replacement over the final week of the transfer window and that player – whoever he is – helps the Gers defend their Scottish Premiership title come May, amid pressure from Celtic.
Or, possibly, Hagi is too big of a player to replace in the short term and Rangers struggle, allowing the Hoops – who are four points behind in second – a massive lifeline.
With four goals and four assists in 27 outings across all competitions, Hagi isn’t a major player for the light Blues in terms of numbers.
However, he is certainly a colossal influence on their attack and Van Bronckhorst – who added that he’s open to spending – will really need to replace him well.
