Arsenal have identified an ‘extremely good’ alternative to Dusan Vlahovic.
The Gunners are heavily linked with a big-money move to sign the Fiorentina marksman.
However, speculation has slowed in recent days and there’s a new name on Arsenal’s transfer agenda – Alexander Isak.
The North Londoners were strongly linked last summer following his heroics for Sweden at Euro 2020.
According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old – who stands at 6’4, making him slightly bigger than Vlahovic at 6’3 – is back on Arsenal’s radar.
Isak plays for Real Sociedad in Spain.
And Spanish football expert Alvaro Montero has revealed via Sky Sports that Isak would be a top-drawer alternative to Vlahovic, despite a release clause of £75 million.
He told Sky Sports: “Alexander Isak is a very good player and would be an extremely good alternative should Arsenal miss out on Dusan Vlahovic. He’s a very important striker for Real Sociedad but I’d say it’s almost impossible.
“Speaking to sources close to the club, I’m told that Isak wants to stay having only signed a new contract last summer until 2026. He’s got a release clause of €90m.”
Let’s be honest – either of these two would massively improve Arsenal.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang exiled – even moreso now after being omitted for the visit to Dubai – and Alexandre Lacazette struggling in a massive way, Mikel Arteta needs goalscorers.
And with Vlahovic and Isak only being 21 and 22 respectively, and two of Europe’s most exciting young strikers, either signing would be an absolute coup for the Emirates Stadium outfit.
Isak is more expensive, with his Serbian counterpart out of contract this summer, but unfortunately both option seem a little farfetched for the Gunners, despite speculation.
