Tottenham Hotspur look to be closing in on a midfield signing, but few could have predicted a deal for Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat.
It’s pretty clear that Antonio Conte needs reinforcements in the middle of the park, especially with a couple of names potentially heading out.
Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli all seem pretty much finished under Conte.
If all three leave before Monday’s transfer deadline, then Tottenham must bring in midfield reinforcements.
You could have asked Tottenham fans to name 50 midfielders that could arrive this month, and surely nobody would have come up with Amrabat.
Now though, Calciomercato claim that Tottenham are coming in with a loan deal until the end of the season for Fiorentina’s Amrabat.
That deal would see Tottenham hold a €15million purchase option on Amrabat, which works out to around £12.5million.
Viola News add that the deal is pretty done, and the only thing missing is for Amrabat to accept the move.
You would imagine Amrabat would jump at the chance to play in the Premier League, but he is away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco.
That means there may be some slight delays in getting this deal done, but Amrabat looks set for Tottenham.
Amrabat, 25, hasn’t quite settled anywhere yet. After emerging with Utrecht, Feyenoord snapped him up.
After just one year in Rotterdam, Amrabat headed off to Club Brugge, but he again spent just one year there before leaving for Hellas Verona on loan.

Amrabat’s performances in Italy tempted Fiorentina into signing him, but he could be moving on again after just 18 months.
Amrabat has never managed more than 60 appearances for one club, and that nomadic nature isn’t helping.
Primarily a holding midfielder, Amrabat is physical and has been praised for his ‘exceptional technique’.
Despite struggling at Fiorentina, Amrabat is still highly-regarded in Italy. Former Palermo sporting director Rino Foschi has suggested that whoever signs Amrabat this month is landing a ‘bargain’ and he will be well worth the money.
That now looks to be Tottenham, with Fabio Paratici again using the Italian market to bolster the Spurs squad.
