Portuguese outlet SIC Noticias claim Tottenham have tabled an initial offer worth £37million to sign Porto superstar Luis Diaz. The fee could rise to a huge £46million for the Colombian – with Liverpool also strongly linked.

Diaz, 25, has thrown himself onto the radar of English clubs this season with some superb performances for Porto – both domestically, and in the Champions League. From the left, he has scored 16 goals in 28 games.

Two of those came in his six Champions League appearances – both against AC Milan. Diaz faced Liverpool in the group stage and A Bola report that Liverpool want to sign him – but he has a release clause worth £68million.

Now, Tottenham could have stolen a march – though their initial offer might below Porto’s asking price. They have offered an initial £37million, which could rise to £46million. Spurs want an answer in the next 48 hours.

Tottenham bid for Diaz: But surely, Porto star prefers Liverpool move?

Tottenham need a third superstar in their front three. Son Heung-min and Harry Kane are obviously first choice, and Diaz would offer a brilliant third option – even though his best position is on the left, where Son plays.

Lucas Moura has been excellent at times during the 2021-22 campaign, but the Brazil international is hardly seen as the long-term answer. Diaz would certainly be that man – but surely he would prefer a move to Liverpool?

With Mo Salah’s contract still not sorted, Diaz may find that he has a chance of breaking into Liverpool’s side – a genuine title contender, and Champions League favourite. Spurs are struggling to reach the top four.
