A report from Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo claims that it is now ‘more than likely’ that Giovani Lo Celso will leave Tottenham this summer. A return to Real Betis is on the cards, with Lo Celso keen on leaving the club.

The £27million signing – who joined on loan under Mauricio Pochettino – has failed to get going at Spurs. Other than a brief period of form under Jose Mourinho, Lo Celso has struggled to gather any momentum.

On Sunday, the Argentina international was completely omitted from Tottenham’s matchday squad as Spurs suffered a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. Taking to Instagram, Lo Celso told fans that he was not injured, just axed.

Now, reports from Estadio Deportivo state that he is ready to leave and ‘more than likely’ to go before the end of the January window. It appears that £70,000-a-week (Spotrac) Lo Celso might have played his last game.

Lo Celso to leave: Tottenham star simply does not suit Conte system

In Conte’s midfield, the Italian needs workhorses. Players that are defensively minded, but creative on the ball. Deep-lying playmakers. Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are all perfect for the role.

Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli and Lo Celso are not. No surprises then, that all three are being linked with a January exit. For the good of Lo Celso’s career, he needs to leave Spurs and return to Spanish football, where he impressed.
