Fiorentina director Daniele Prade admits Sofyan Amrabat could leave the Serie A outfit as Tottenham Hotspur enter talks regarding a Premier League loan, speaking to Sport Italia.
If you had told Spurs supporters back in December that they would enter negotiations to sign a Fiorentina player with one week remaining in the January transfer window, you’d have caused a crowd the size of a Knebworth gig to gather outside the Tottenham training ground.
But anyone hoping to see Dusan Vlahovic arrive at Hotspur Way will be disappointed.
After months of speculation, arguably the most coveted forward in European football is following in the footsteps of Roberto Baggio, Federico Bernardeschi and Federico Chiesa, swapping Fiorentina for arch rivals Juventus while simultaneously destroying his La Viola legacy.
Tottenham could still sign a Fiorentina player before the month is out.
But it’s their out of favour midfielder, rather than their 20-goal talisman, who is closing in on a move to a club sitting seventh in the Premier League table.
According to The Standard, Tottenham are edging ever closer to a short-term loan deal for 25-year-old Amrabat.
How have Arsenal helped Tottenham sign Sofyan Amrabat?
“We have had contact with many teams (about Amrabat),” says Prade, as translated by Tuttomercatoweb.
“Our market, after the purchases we made, is designed only to try to please those who have played less. And he is one of them. He is strong and wants to play more.”
A £17 million signing from Club Brugge less than two years ago, Amrabat has been likened to N’Golo Kante due to his all-action style.
The former Feyenoord starlet, who’s brother Nordin once donned the yellow-and-black of Watford, has played just 20 minutes of Serie A football since mid-November.
Understandably, he’d relish the prospect of a fresh start.

And Tottenham have been given a helping hand by none other than their North London neighbours.
If it wasn’t for Arsenal loanee Lucas Torreira, Amrabat might still be a regular in the Fiorentina XI after all.
“In his role there is Torreira,” Prade explains. “Someone like him suffers if he does not play.”
A permanent move for the Uruguayan feels like the final nail in Amrabat’s Viola coffin.
