Liverpool and Manchester City will reportedly go toe-to-toe with each other over the signing of PSV Eindhoven talent Cody Gakpo.
According to Voetbal International, the two Premier League clubs are keen on the Dutch international, who this season has exploded into life with the Eredivisie side. The winger has bagged an impressive combined 21 goals and assists in all competitions.
With PSV going head-to-head with Ajax for the Dutch title this season, Gakpo is unlikely to depart this January. However, a summer move could be on the cards, with Total Football Analysis dubbing the winger as the next ‘generational’ talent to come from Holland.
Moreover, as per the report, Gakpo himself is not sure what next step he will make next in his career. There are rumours that the youngster could sign a new deal with PSV, which could be used as a way to increase his transfer valuation in the coming months.
A physically imposing winger yet one who dribbles with grace and elegance, Gakpo could be the next Dutch talent to take his talents to the Premier League and become a superstar in England.
Hailed as an attacker who has ‘everything’ as per former Ajax midfielder and Netherlands international Theo Janssen via NOS, Gakpo is a player with plenty of potential, and it is no wonder both Liverpool and City are keen on the 22-year-old.
Gakpo could suit Liverpool more to City as successor for Mane

Replacing Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the future will be a mammoth task for Liverpool, yet Gakpo could be the ideal player to replace the Senegalese international in the coming years.
A left-winger who tends to cut in and cause problems, Gakpo could be a unique alternative to Mane for Liverpool, and whilst City could be a tempting project, there’s no doubt that Merseyside would be a better suit for the Dutch international.
