Tottenham are reportedly requesting a fee of £21million to sanction the permanent exit of Japhet Tanganga. The defender has been in and out of the side under Antonio Conte – and Newcastle should take advantage.

Newcastle remain in the hunt to bring in a few new signings before the deadline. After Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, the Toon are targeting centre-backs – as well as a midfielder, left-back and potentially a forward.

In defence, Diego Carlos remains the club’s first target while the likes of James Tarkowski, Benoit Badiashile and more are also options. But Tanganga could be allowed to go, and at a decent price.

Indeed, CalcioMercato report that Tottenham would prefer to sell their academy product permanently – in order to bring in some cash for his signature. AC Milan had been pursuing a loan deal for Tanganga.

Tottenham £21m price must tempt Newcastle into Tanganga move

They claim that Spurs want £21million to consider selling Tanganga permanently, a fee Milan are unlikely to pay in the last week of the window. But Newcastle are more than capable of achieving such a figure.

Tanganga is ideal for the position Newcastle find themselves. Immediately, he offers versatility – right-back, right of a back three or centre-back. But also an immediate jump in quality. Newcastle need fight, and passion.

His physicality – as seen in his duel with Raheem Sterling on the opening day of the season – is just the kind of defensive robustness required in a relegation scrap. But Tanganga would also be a long-term signing too.

Turning only 23 in March, he offers Newcastle a homegrown quality – as well as the potential to become an England international in years to come. At £21million, Newcastle have got to pounce and raid Tottenham.
