Craig Burley has claimed that Granit Xhaka was a ‘liability’ before Arsenal signed him, as he told ESPN.

The former Scotland international thinks Arsenal need to ‘get him out’ of the club and find two ‘really solid’ midfielders to add to their young armoury.

In 2016, Arsenal paid German side Borussia Monchengladbach £30 million for Xhaka’s hard-hitting talents (Sky Sports).

Fast forward to today and it’s fair to say that he is a signing that just hasn’t worked out for the north London club.

Xhaka’s constant rash decisions, including red cards, haven’t helped his cause, nor his reputation with the fans.

Former Chelsea midfielder Burley thinks it’s time Arsenal moved on with the player.

“I think they need one, if not two, really solid additional midfielders,” said Burley. “Dynamic and strong. And they aren’t easy to come across. Everybody is looking for them.

“I think Partey has done a good job. Xhaka is a liability. He was a liability in the Bundesliga before Arsenal signed him.

“I think he might have been the most booked player there, at one point. But this discipline, or lack of it, has come with him and ultimately. I think they will have to get him out.”

The players that have stood up to be counted on a regular basis at Arsenal this season have been the club’s young guns.

It doesn’t help matters when senior players are getting sent off in League Cup games where they are one game away from a Wembley final.

Come the end of the season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Arsenal look to part ways with Xhaka.

Even though he recently signed a new deal, it seems as though that was done to try and maintain his transfer value more than anything.
