Granit Xhaka has boldly claimed that Arsenal can catch ‘struggling’ Chelsea and ‘even Liverpool’ in the Premier League table, as he told Sky Sports.

The combative midfielder claimed that ‘it’s a shame’ people only speak about Arsenal possibly finishing in fourth spot when he thinks they should be aiming higher.

Seventh-placed Arsenal are three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United in the table and a further nine and ten points behind Chelsea and Liverpool.

It also needs to be remembered that Arsenal have three games in hand on Chelsea and one game in hand on the Reds – Thomas Tuchel’s men have been dropping points for a number of weeks now.

All of that can change on Sunday afternoon, with all three teams in action in the Premier League.

And Xhaka thinks his Champions League-chasing side need to dream bigger than just finishing in fourth spot.

“It’s a shame because everyone is only speaking about the fourth place,” said Xhaka. “I believe we can do much better than that.

“Chelsea is struggling, at the moment, as well. We are not so far from them, even Liverpool as well.

“But, first of all, we have to look after ourselves. Take the points that we need and not look too much to the others.”

Arsenal got knocked out of the League Cup at the hands of Liverpool on Thursday night, with Diogo Jota netting a brace in the second leg.

It was a deserved victory for the Merseyside club and the pressure was put right back on Mikel Arteta following that defeat.

It also needs to be remembered that Arsenal are also out of the FA Cup and now they are out of the League Cup.

So, only the Premier League remains and the club trying to secure Champions League football, with several teams in that battle, including Spurs, West Ham, Wolves and Manchester United.
