Tottenham Hotspur are ready to back Antonio Conte to sign Diego Carlos ahead of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United, according to The Sun.

The Sun have reported that Tottenham are ready to back Conte with the transfer funds needed to sign Carlos from Sevilla in the January transfer window.

Newcastle are reportedly hopeful of getting a deal done for the Brazilian defender, but Spurs are now ready to make their move.

Tottenham Hotspur or Newcastle United for Diego Carlos?

In our view, Tottenham could be more appealing to Carlos than Newcastle at this moment in time.

Yes, we know that there is speculation that the 28-year-old Brazilian defender has put in a transfer request and wants to move to Newcastle.

But, that was before Tottenham got involved.

Newcastle can offer big salary, but so can Tottenham.

Spurs can also offer Carlos the chance to at least compete for big trophies and competitions.

Newcastle are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

So, in our view, Carlos would find Tottenham more appealing than Newcastle right now.

However, if Newcastle offer Sevilla more in transfer fees than Tottenham, then PIF could get the defender.

After all, if Sevilla have to sell the Brazilian defender, then they will surely want the maximum transfer fee regardless of which club they sell him to.
