Christopher Jullien has handed Ange Postecoglou and Celtic an injury boost ahead of their incoming Old Firm clash with Rangers on February 2. The defender’s post on Instagram, includes a picture of him back in training.
Jullien, 28, has failed to feature for Celtic since colliding with the post against Dundee United back in December 2020. Indeed, he only played 14 times in 2020-21 for Celtic – and is yet to play under Postecoglou.
It forced Celtic to bring in reinforcements in the middle of the defence, last summer. Cameron Carter-Vickers has been superb since joining on loan from Tottenham, while Swedish player Carl Starfelt has been indifferent.
Stephen Welsh is improving, while Liam Scales and Nir Bitton can also play in the middle of the defence. But £7million signing Jullien is easily the club’s best centre-back when fit, and he posted a six-word update on Instagram.
End of the tunnel: Green light for Celtic ace Jullien, ahead of Rangers
It is a huge boost for Celtic. Jullien is not only Celtic’s best defender, but one of their best players. In the 61 games he has played for the Hoops since his move from Toulouse, he has scored 10 goals and even laid on four assists.
He has helped Celtic keep a huge 27 clean sheets in those 61 games, conceding only 50 goals in that time. His aerial prowess, strength, control on the ball and threat from set-pieces massively improves Celtic.
If he can get himself fit between now and the Old Firm derby against Rangers on February 2, it could be a crucial moment in the race for the title. Celtic face Alloa, Hearts and Dundee United before the Rangers clash.
