Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has been discussing Everton’s manager search and their interest in both Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.
The two managers have been strongly linked with a move to Everton, with The Telegraph even claiming that the pair are set to be interviewed by the Goodison Park outfit.
However, despite the fact Rooney and Lampard are of interest to Everton, the pair are reportedly extremely sceptical about heading to Merseyside right now.
What’s the story?
McGarry shared what he knows about Rooney and Lampard.
“Speaking of Derby County, Wayne Rooney has been linked with his old club Everton after the sacking of Rafa Benitez. Frank Lampard is another who has been invited to have a conversation with representatives of Everton,” McGarry said.
“Neither are first choice, the Belgium manager Roberto Martinez is. However, it is our information that both Lampard and Rooney are extremely sceptical about the way Everton are being run.”

Can’t be worse than Derby
You have to worry about the way Everton are being run when the Derby County manager is sceptical about the shape of the club.
Rooney has taken the Derby job when the Rams were in dire straits. The Midlands outfit have had financial problems, points deductions and transfer embargoes, and still, Rooney is questioning the structure at Everton.
Lampard is in a similar boat too. Don’t forget he had a transfer embargo enforced when he first joined Chelsea.
If Lampard and Rooney can’t be enticed, Everton may struggle to appoint a capable manager after sacking Rafa Benitez.
