Newcastle United have reportedly made a second offer to sign PSG midfielder and former Toon star Georginio Wijnaldum, with this approach also being turned down.

According to Foot Mercato via GFFN, the Magpies have had a second proposal for the 31-year-old dynamo turned down by the Ligue 1 giants. Wijnaldum is reportedly available this January just a few months after signing for PSG.

The Netherlands international is currently out with an injury. However, that hasn’t stopped some clubs from attempting to sign him, with the report indicating that Inter Milan and Juventus have also enquired for Wijnaldum this month.

Newcastle are eager to add a central midfielder to the likes of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood this January, with Eddie Howe’s side seemingly set on bringing Wijnaldum back to the northeast after his move to France.

After leaving Newcastle for Liverpool, Wijnaldum had an incredible five years with the Merseyside giants, with the midfielder playing a key role in the Reds’ UEFA Champions League and Premier League title wins.

Indeed, Wijnaldum looked to repeat his success with Liverpool in Paris. However, his debut season under Mauricio Pochettino has been plagued with injuries and inconsistent playing time. And a move back to looks to be on the cards for the former Newcastle star.

Newcastle are overestimating their reach in new offer for Wijnaldum

Whilst there is an obvious link between Newcastle and Wijnaldum given that the midfielder spent a season with the club, there’s no denying that the Toon are overestimating their pulling power by trying to lure the 31-year-old back to St. James Park.

After all, Wijnaldum is now a Premier League and Champions League winner. And whilst the midfielder might feel some gratitude to Newcastle, the Toon should be focusing on more realistic targets this month to improve the middle of the park.
