Newcastle United’s pursuit of Diego Carlos continues, with the Sevilla defender allegedly agreeing terms of a move to St James’ Park.
The Magpies are desperate for centre back additions this month, and have made Diego Carlos their top target.
After weeks of rumours, it seems that Newcastle are finally closing in on a deal to sign the Brazilian.
The Guardian claim that a £30million deal is so close that Diego Carlos could feature against against Leeds United this weekend.
Sky Sports even suggest that the 28-year-old defender has asked to leave Sevilla so he can join Newcastle.
Leaving title-challenging Sevilla for relegation-threatened Newcastle is a huge risk, meaning the terms on offer must be very appealing.
Fabrizio Romano now claims that Diego Carlos has already agreed personal terms with Newcastle.
This would see Newcastle secure a five-year deal for the centre back, with Romano claiming there is ‘no doubt’ on the player’s side.
Romano does though claim that talks are ongoing because Sevilla are suggesting that €35million (£30million) isn’t enough.
Sevilla take on Valencia tonight, so it will be fascinating to see whether Diego Carlos is included in the Sevilla side.
Newcastle appear to be closing in on their man, and what a coup this would be if the Magpies pull it off.
Diego Carlos has enjoyed a great rise in recent years having been spotted thriving with Estoril in Portugal.
Nantes snapped him up in 2016, and three strong years in France tempted Monchi into luring him over to Sevilla.
Now with more than 100 appearances for Sevilla to his name, Diego Carlos has become one of La Liga’s top defenders.
Branded a ‘real leader’ by Andy Brassell, Diego Carlos turns 29 in March and won’t offer Newcastle much resale value, but will hopefully help organise Eddie Howe’s shaky Newcastle back line – if they can finalise a deal with Sevilla.
