Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has allegedly told Arthur Melo that he will play more in the second half of the season amid talks with Arsenal.

Arsenal are desperate to add another midfielder this month given that Mikel Arteta is very short of options right now.

Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey are both away at the Africa Cup of Nations, whilst Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been loaned to Roma.

Arsenal simply have to come out of the January window with another midfielder, with Arthur their top target as things stand.

Goal reported last week that Arsenal had opened talks and actually came up with an offer that Juventus liked.

The Daily Mail added that Arthur wanted to join Arsenal, but he was waiting for boss Allegri to accept the move.

It now seems that Allegri has other plans entirely and doesn’t want Arthur to leave Juventus at all this month.

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Allegri is promising Arthur more playing time in the second half of the season after a dismal first half of the campaign.

Arthur made just his fourth league start of the season on Saturday, but was substituted at half time by Allegri.

Allegri seemingly still wants to keep Arthur at Juventus, but whether the Brazilian can rely on that promise remains to be seen.

Arsenal aren’t giving up and are planning new talks for Arthur this week, desperate to secure his signature.

Edu is a big fan of his fellow Brazilian and seemingly believes his ability as a roaming playmaker can bring something new to the Arsenal side.

Juventus paid £66million to sign Arthur in 2020, so maybe Allegri feels he really needs to get the best out of an expensive signing.

Arsenal aren’t going away though, and few could really blame Arthur for feeling he needs to try something new after failing to feature prominently under Allegri this season.
