La Tercera claim that West Ham are interested in signing Inter Milan superstar Alexis Sanchez, and are ready to table a £6million bid. However, the Hammers face competition from Newcastle in pursuit of the Chilean.
Sanchez, 33, has seen his career dwindle ever since joining Manchester United in 2018. Just five goals in 45 games – after 80 in 166 for Arsenal – saw him go join Inter Milan, initially on loan. His form has slightly improved.
He has 15 goals and 36 goal involvements in his 89 Inter outings, but is some way below the standard expected of a player with 144 caps for his country. He has started four of Inter’s last five Serie A matches, scoring two.
But Sanchez is on big wages and has entered the final 18 months of his contract. If a decent offer comes in, Inter are likely to let him go and a return to the Premier League looks as though it could be on the cards.
Indeed, La Tercera report that West Ham are ready to table a £6million bid to lure him back to London this month. However, they are not the only Premier League club interested – with cash-rich Newcastle also interested.
Newcastle or West Ham: Who should sign Sanchez from Inter?
The same problems will arise in a potential deal for Newcastle. Why would Sanchez pick Newcastle, who sit in 19th place, over a move to join West Ham – who remain in fourth despite Sunday’s loss to Leeds United?
But the fact of the matter is, that Newcastle have a much better chance of matching Sanchez’s wages. At West Ham, he would likely have to take a pay cut. Newcastle, though, have just brought in Chris Wood from Burnley.
A pay cut at West Ham, or a move to relegation-threatened Newcastle. The chances are, that he will remain at Inter until at least the summer.
