Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have seen loan bids for Manchester United ace Anthony Martial rejected this month. That is, despite the player wanting to leave.

Martial, 26, is yet to play a single minute under new manager Ralf Rangnick, despite returning from a knee injury in December. Indeed, the player has made it clear that he is keen on leaving Old Trafford this month.

But it appears United are playing hardball. Manchester United may still see their £58million (BBC) signing as cover for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani up top – or out wide. Newcastle and Spurs are keen.

Romano has now reported that both Newcastle and Tottenham have made offers to sign the 30-time France international. However, both moves have been rejected. Barcelona, Sevilla and Juventus are now his three options.

Tottenham, Newcastle eye Martial: Manchester United make right move

Manchester United have made the right decision not to loan Martial to an English club – more specifically, Tottenham. A move to Newcastle is hardly going to get the best out of the Frenchman, either.

With Newcastle down the bottom, Martial will be asked to defend as much as he would attack. Tottenham is a better move, but strengthening a direct rival for the top four would only hinder Manchester United going forward.

Therefore, United are right to really only entertain offers from abroad. A move to Juventus would surely tempt Martial, though their demands for a full wages is likely to prevent Barcelona or Sevilla from landing Martial.
