Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte revealed some bad news on Friday afternoon.
With Tottenham scheduled to face Arsenal in a North London derby on Sunday, now is the ideal time for Spurs to have their best players available.
However, the Italian trainer confirmed that Eric Dier would be sidelined for the occasion due to injury.
This is rotten news for the Lilywhites because, honestly, Dier has been immense since Conte repelaced Nuno Espirito Santo in North London.
The setback could, however, prove very beneficial for a certain Joe Rodon.
The Wales international has very much been on the periphery of things since Conte arrived at Hotspur Way back in November.
Rodon, who joined for £15 million from Swansea City under Jose Mourinho, has only played for Conte twice – once in the FA Cup win over Morecambe last weekend, and earlier in the Europa Conference League defeat at Mura.
The towering defender hasn’t yet been picked by the Tottenham manager in the Premier League.
But with Dier absent, Cristian Romero not fit and Japhet Tanganga being slightly erratic, Rodon might be Conte’s best available option to face Arsenal.
Well, if the game goes ahead.
With their numbers depleted for an array of reasons, the Gunners have requested that the contest be postponed until a later date.
It’s worrying for Tottenham because their neighbours do have a legitimate case but, if the clash continues as scheduled, Rodon can expect to make the starting lineup and maybe, just maybe, he could transform his fortunes for the better.
