Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports News (5:19pm, January 15, 2022) that Chris Wood was “poor” for Newcastle United against Watford at St. James’ Park.

Watford restored parity in the 88th minute through Joao Pedro.
Former Arsenal star Merson was following the match for Sky Sports News, and he was not impressed by Wood’s debut for Newcastle.
The former Leeds United striker join Newcastle from Burnley earlier this week for £25 million.
Wood made his debut for the Magpies against Watford today.
Merson said about Wood’s performance: “Not really. No, he was poor.”

In our opinion, Wood did not have a good game for Newcastle against Watford.
The Newcastle midfielders could not really create much for the New Zealand international striker.
Wood, though, did work hard and gave his all, but it was a debut to forget for him.
The 30-year-old striker took three shots and none was on target, had a pass accuracy of 63.2%, won four headers, took 35 touches, and attempted one dribble.
