Sky reporter Kaveh Solhekol told Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show on Thursday night that there is progress being made as Newcastle look to sign Diego Carlos. Solhekol reports Carlos wants to leave Sevilla for Newcastle.

Carlos, 28, is being strongly linked with a move to Newcastle and looks as if he will be the club’s main centre-back target over the next week or two. Lille have blocked a move for Sven Botman, in recent days.

The Mail state that Botman remains a priority, while the club have made a £28million offer for Brazil international Carlos – which they are awaiting a response. Monaco’s Benoit Badiahsile is also a player that could come in.

Europa League winner Carlos is seemingly growing close to a move to Newcastle. Speaking about Newcastle’s interest, Solhekol reported that progress is being made and a deal is heading in the right direction.

“Diego Carlos’ potential transfer to Newcastle is moving in a positive direction. Not done, but positive. Carlos is open to coming to Newcastle. He definitely wants to move. It looks like some progress is being made.”

Solhekol on Carlos: Sevilla star would be Newcastle best signing

Carlos would be massive. Newcastle desperately need a centre-back, or even two. But the fact is, that Carlos – given his age, the price on offer and the fact he is in his prime – would be the club’s best deal of January.

A bigger coup than Kieran Trippier, a more-important signing than Chris Wood. Newcastle desperately need Carlos or a player like him but fans can begin to get excited, following the latest update from Sky’s Solhekol.
