Listen, Tottenham Hotspur have clearly signed some absolute belters down the years.

From Gareth Bale, to Dimitar Berbatov, to Luka Modric, Spurs have genuinely brought some supreme talents to North London at various stages in their modern history.

But have the Lilywhites ever signed anybody who was already a superstar in football? Arguably not.

However, if rumours from Italy are accurate, that could change this summer. Tottenham could make their biggest-ever signing in terms of profile…..and he’d be absolutely free.

According to Corriere della Sera, Antonio Conte is ready to win the race to sign Paulo Dybala from his former club Juventus this summer.

Dybala’s contract negotiations with the Serie A outfit has reached an impasse and it looks increasingly likely that he’s going to be leaving the Italian powerhouse.

And if it materialises that Tottenham get him, well it’s incomparable to anybody else.

Yes, they signed Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid in 2020, but he was 30, rusty and honestly, a thousand miles past the player who Spurs sold to Los Blancos back in 2013.

Dybala, however, is only 28 and in the very prime of his footballing career.

There’s no doubt that his goalscoring has suffered in recent years but, under a manager like Conte, the Argentina international could very easily rediscover the sort of form that saw Barcelona fail with a £133 million offer five years ago.

Dybala might not be Tottenham’s best-ever player, because producing a standard what Harry Kane or Bale has managed in North London is a massive task.

However, the Lilywhites have never signed a profile like this, in the prime of his career, and the fact Conte could get it done for free is baffling and exciting in equal measure.
