Jamie Carragher has suggested on Sky Sports Premier League (10:21pm, January 13, 2021) that contract talks between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah are about to intensify following the match against Arsenal.

Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Premier League rivals Arsenal at Anfield in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final tie on Thursday evening.

It was a very disappointing performance from the Reds, especially when you consider that Arsenal played most of the match with 10 men.

Jurgen Klopp’s side took 17 shots, and only one was on target.

Salah did not play, as the Egypt international forward is away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher and Sky Sports pundit has suggested that talks between Salah and the Reds over a new deal could now intensity.

If it happens, then it will certainly be exciting for Liverpool fans, who will surely want their star player to stay at the club for many more years.

Carragher said: “Those two players (Salah and Mane) are obviously a big miss, and there’s talk now that Salah’s contract will probably intensify even more because when he is not there, you see the effect that it has.”

What should Liverpool do with Mohamed Salah?

In our view, Liverpool should keep Salah and agree a new deal with the 29-year-old former Chelsea attacker.

As reported by Sky Sports, Liverpool and Salah are in talks over a new contract.

We saw against Arsenal how toothless Liverpool were in attack.

Now, of course, it was only one game, but, in our opinion, if Salah was on the pitch, then things could have been different.

Liverpool could have had more than just one shot on target.

Salah said this week that his future is in the hands of Liverpool, and that he is not asking for crazy salary.

It is going to cost a lot in transfer fees to replace a world-class player like Salah who is at the top of his game.

The Liverpool no. 11 has scored 16 goals and provided nine assists in 20 Premier League matches, and has scored seven goals in six Champions League games so far this season.
