Luis Garcia has responded to a Liverpool fan on Twitter, defending his old side’s inability to break down 10-man Arsenal on Thursday night. He disagreed with Jamie Carragher’s claim that it is easier to face 10 men.
With Arsenal going down to 10 men following the sending off of Granit Xhaka, Arsenal retreated into their own half. They saw out the match superbly, securing a brilliant 0-0 draw at Anfield ahead of the second leg.
At half-time, Carragher was confident that Liverpool would go on to win the match. Even in the absence of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, the Liverpool legend was confident that the Reds would find it easier against the Gunners.
But with the scoreline reading 0-0 at full-time and Takumi Minamino guilty of missing a sitter, Liverpool failed. Garcia spoke of how hard it is to face 10 men behind the ball, disagreeing with Carragher’s half-time comments.
Missed opportunity for Liverpool as Garcia disagrees with Carragher
Of course, Garcia will know that Liverpool missed a real chance to book themselves into the final of the Carabao Cup. They are obviously, still well in the tie – as the two sides go head to head at the Emirates.
But there is no doubt that with Arsenal sitting back and defending, Liverpool lacked creativity and movement in behind – they normally get from Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.
Garcia does have a point, Arsenal immediately became more defensive with less players and there were less gaps. But Carragher is also right, that Liverpool should really have gone on to win the match.
