Kanye West left his fans worried following a cryptic Instagram post that appeared to feature a ‘skinned monkey’ – so what’s going on?
Initially, some fans thought the picture was some kind of response to a report by the Independent that he is being investigated by the LAPD over an alleged offence.
So to put the record straight, here is West’s Instagram post explained.
‘Skinned monkey’ Instagram post explained
The rapper left fans worried after a cryptic Instagram post in the early hours of Friday (January 14th).
West shared a graphic picture of what appears to be a monkey stripped of its fur and covered in blood. The rapper captioned the post: “My life was never easy.”
The original image belongs to British fashion photographer Nick Knight and was taken in 1997. The picture was part of an editorial piece for Big Magazine, which Knight described as a “study in physiology, form, philosophy and death”.
Knight has collaborated with West on several occasions. He directed the video of the rapper’s 2013 single Bound 2 and West’s short film Jesus Is King (2019).
West has been busy recording new music with fellow rapper The Game, who confirmed Knight’s picture was a teaser for their mutual single.
We’re not including the monkey picture here in our article but the image remains on West’s Instagram profile at time of writing.
Some fans ask rapper to delete picture
It’s safe to say some fans were disturbed by the graphic image, urging West to take it down.
“I was not prepared for this to be the first thing I saw when I opened this app,” commented one person under West’s Instagram post.
Another added: “You still have time to delete this.”
Some fans mistakenly thought the picture was West’s response to reports about him being investigated by the LAPD.
Kanye West under investigation after alleged incident
Kanye West is being investigated by the LAPD after he allegedly punched a fan outside Soho Warehouse nightclub in downtown LA in the early hours of Thursday morning.
LAPD confirmed to the Independent the rapper was a suspect in the investigation of an alleged battery offence. As reported by The BBC, the LAPD responded to a call at 3am after an incident was reported.
“A battery report was completed with Kanye West as a named suspect,” LAPD’s statement read. “No arrests have been made and the incident is being investigated by our Newton Division.”
HITC has reached out to Kanye West for comment.
Hours before the alleged incident, West was reportedly seen with Madonna, Floyd Mayweather and Julia Fox enjoying a private party and listening to Drake’s music.
