Celtic have been linked with the £1 million-rated Ahmed Kendouci but ES Setif manager Nabil Kouki does not expect to lose one of his star players during the January transfer window, as reported by the Daily Record.

Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic are no strangers to making eye-catching moves for players who can hardly be considered household names in Glasgow’s East End.

Since hiring the former Australia coach as Neil Lennon’s replacement, The Hoops have snapped up four players from Far East Japan.

Kyogo Furuhashi has been joined in Scotland’s second city by fellow J-League exports Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Daizen Maeda.

And, with Postecoglou looking to add another technically-gifted attacking midfielder to his ranks before February 1, Celtic are once again casting their net far and wide.

Will Celtic succeed in signing Algeria international Ahmed Kendouci?

Reports from Iran claim that Celtic have made three separate approaches to sign Mehdi Ghayedi from Dubai-based outfit Shabab Al Ahli.

22-year-old Algeria international Kendouci is another name on their mid-season hit-list.

Though like Shabab Al Ahli, who are determined to retain Ghayedi until the summer, ES Setif will be looking to keep hold of their prized asset with a title on the line.

“Last season, we missed out on the title because we sold important players in the transfer window,” says Kouki, who’s Setif side are currently just two points behind league-leaders CR Belouizdad.

“I very much hope and expect that it won’t happen this time.”

The Record believe that Celtic would have to part with around £1 million for Kendouci, who produced an impressive 11 goals and 11 assists from central midfield last season.

That is a third of the fee Celtic would have to pay for their first-choice midfield target, Charlotte FC’s Birmingham City loanee Riley McGree.

McGree, who was handed his Australia debut by Postecoglou at the age of just 17, is closing in on a £3.5 million move to Middlesbrough.
