Chelsea have reportedly joined Tottenham in the race to sign Wolves powerhouse Adama Traore. It is believed Spurs are still ‘confident’ of a deal but now face competition from Chelsea – and Tottenham fans have reacted.
Traore, 25, has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham for some time now. Even before the arrival of his old boss Nuno Espirito Santo, Spurs were considered a possible suitor for the Spain international.
During Nuno’s reign and now with Antonio Conte in charge, Spurs remain interested. With Traore now in the final 18 months of his contract at Wolves, there is a belief that a deal can be done for the Wolves winger.
However, transfer expert Dean Jones has told The Football Terrace YouTube channel that while Spurs remain confident – Chelsea will offer competition. ESPN report that Spurs are in talks over a £20million deal.
“Chelsea are also interested in Traore. They haven’t gone as far along the road as Spurs have yet, but they also have issues on the right. There’ll be some competition even though Tottenham are reasonably confident.”
What are Tottenham fans saying, as Chelsea join Traore race?
Tottenham fans are growing impatient. Conte’s arrival earlier in the season had excited supporters that finally, Daniel Levy might loosen the stronghold on Tottenham’s coffers. But Spurs are yet to make a move in January.
While there is plenty of time left and Spurs are notorious for making signings towards the end of the window, there is a concern that their delayed approach may see Chelsea pip them to Traore’s signature.
Whether Chelsea is a better move for Traore is a different question. Spurs need cover on the flanks – and ideally want a right-sided player to replace Emerson Royal. But Tottenham fans are concerned, as Chelsea eye Traore.
