CalcioMercato have provided an update regarding Ola Aina’s potential move to Leeds United this month. It is believed Torino are open to selling to Leeds, but only if Genoa cancel the loan of Lazio star Mohamed Fares.

Last week, TuttoMercatoWeb reported that Leeds were considering a move for London-born Aina. The 25-year-old is currently at the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria, playing 90 minutes in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Egypt.

Leeds are keen on signing the versatile Aina from Torino, after an impressive loan at Fulham last term. The new report states Torino are open to selling to Leeds – and have identified a replacement, in Fares.

But whether they can sign 25-year-old Fares is up to loan side Genoa. He is currently on loan at Genoa from Lazio. While Torino have an agreement with Lazio and Fares, they await to see if Genoa will cancel his loan deal.

Aina to Leeds: Will Genoa cancel Fares loan, to allow Aina move?

Unlikely. Genoa have the final say as to whether Fares can go, or not. The 12-time Algeria international failed to make Algeria’s squad which helps, but he has impressed in his nine appearances for Genoa this season.

He scored twice on his debut in a 3-2 win over Cagliari and while he was injured for 10 Serie A games between October and December, he is first choice when fit. Leeds might find Genoa block the chance to sign Aina.
