Newcastle United are pressing ahead with their bid to sign Reims striker Hugo Ekitike – despite closing in on a move for Burnley’s Chris Wood.

The Telegraph report that Wood is on his way up to Tyneside for a medical ahead of a deal that could be worth around £25million.

If you thought Newcastle’s attacking recruitment was done, then you’re mistaken.

Sky Sports claim that Newcastle could yet sign another striker with Reims ace Ekitike the one they want.

The idea is to bring in one experienced striker with Premier League experience in Wood, as well as sign an up-and-coming talent.

Ekitike absolutely fits the bill, and the Daily Mail claim that Newcastle are stepping up their pursuit of signing Ekitike.

The young striker is allegedly keen on a move to Newcastle, though Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to be keen.

Ekitike, 19, is a tall and rangy centre forward who has earned comparisons to Kylian Mbappe and David Trezeguet.

Ekitike has been sensational this season, bagging eight goals and three assists in just 17 Ligue 1 games.

Backed for a huge future, Ekitike has been called ‘very special’ by his Reims manager Oscar Garcia.

Securing Ekitike would be a major coup for Newcastle, and they could have a star of the future on their hands.

With proven Premier League goals from Chris Wood and the currently-injured Callum Wilson and a wonderkid in Ekitike, Newcastle could have the ideal blend in attack.
