Premier League giants Aston Villa are set to sign Kerr Smith with Dundee United manager Tam Courts admitting to The Courier that they have accepted a bid.

Celtic, Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Leeds United.

They are just some of the clubs to express an interest in 17-year-old Smith.

So, while the Scotland u19 star will not hog the headlines like Philippe Coutinho or Lucas Digne, do not underestimate just how well Aston Villa have done to secure the signature of one of Britain’s most sought-after young talents.

The Scottish Sun report that Villa have had a bid in the region of £800,000 accepted by Dundee United.

Smith, who had a brief trial at Villa Park in 2020, could eventually set the club back a cool £2 million (Daily Record).

Is Kerr Smith a future Aston Villa star?

“I believe a bid has been accepted for Kerr Smith,” says Courts, w Micky Mellon in the Tannadice hotseat last June.

“I don’t think the deal is completed yet. But it is now in the latter stages and we will see what happens over the next couple of days.”

Smith will become Aston Villa’s third January signing.

The Midland giants have already completed a stunning loan move for Barcelona misfit Coutinho. Everton’s Lucas Digne, one of Europe’s finest left-backs, looks set to follow in the Brazilian’s footsteps.

While Coutinho and Digne should slot straight into Steven Gerrard’s starting XI, Smith will be integrated into an U23 side chock-full of fresh-faced talent.

Aston Villa’s Under 23s tasted FA Youth Cup glory last term, with Cameron Archer, Jadon Philogene-Bidace and Carney Chukwuemeka forcing their way into the first-team picture.

Jacob Ramsey, the Great Barr-born playmaker, is also now one of the first names on Gerrard’s team-sheet.

Whether Smith can emulate Ramsey’s rise remains to be seen.
