Where does Euphoria take place?

Euphoria takes place in the fictional town of East Highland. Rue describes her upbringing as “a middle-class childhood in an American suburb” but does not go into any further specifics of her hometown.

East Highland and East Highland high school are purely used for fictional purposes and are not based on any real-life town. However, a Redditor shared that there is actually a town called East Highland in real life.

The Euphoria fan writes that: “Although there is a town called East Highland (Inland Empire) like the fictional town in Euphoria. East Highland doesn’t have a high school they go to Redlands High Schools. But the drug use and lack of parental involvement (long commutes to LA) is very much on par.”

Highland is a city in San Bernardino County, California, which is divided into two regions, East Highland and Highland.

The show was filmed in Southern California, but the creators definitely don’t make a point out of emphasising that the show is based on the origin of its shooting locations. Instead, scenes are made to be generic so that audiences can relate them to any area.

Filming locations in Euphoria explored

One of the most notable filming locations for the show is the high school used in Euphoria. It is filmed at Ulysses S. Grant High School in Valley Glen, California.

This real high school has been the home to many other production teams. You may recognise the location as it has been used in other popular films and shows such as Saved By the Bell, True Blood,  Ferris Bueller, CSI Miami, Clueless, The Office, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Yours Mine and Ours.

Many scenes are also filmed at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, and other scenes were filmed in Pomona, California. Fez and Ashtray’s gas station is also a real-life spot, it is reportedly the Alta Dena Dairy in Temple City. Other locations include the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, California, which was used for the mall scenes.

Many of these locations will likely be used again for season 2 of Euphoria, and fans can’t wait to see what it has in store.
