West Ham United have contacted Paris Saint-Germain to discuss Layvin Kurzawa, but now face competition from Lyon to sign the France defender in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report Lyon are increasing their efforts sign the left-back this month. Kurzawa is free to leave Le Parc des Princes having endured a torrid term outside of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans and he would not oppose a mid-season exit, either.

Lyon are advancing their pursuit after recently speaking with the 29-year-old’s agent to test the water. Peter Bosz wants Les Gones to have a replacement ready in case Chelsea recall Emerson Palmieri following Ben Chilwell’s injury.

Lyon had no plans to sign a full-back this month before Chilwell sustained a season-ending knee ligament injury. So, President Jean-Michel Aulas may now have to move to see Bosz is well stocked having fielded Emerson in 16 of 18 available Ligue 1 fixtures so far this season.

Paris Saint-Germain are open to selling Kurzawa in January, having played once all term. He may also leave on a six-month loan deal, as the defender earns €450k-a-month (£94k-a/w).

West Ham also advancing their transfer interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Kurzawa

Kurzawa is in high-demand in England and Italy, along with Lyon eying a deal to keep him in France. West Ham and Aston Villa have contacted Paris Saint-Germain to discuss a transfer, as have Napoli, Inter Milan and Lazio. But moves to those five clubs are yet to advance.

Aston Villa are also nearing a deal for Lucas Digne after the Everton ace accepted personal terms, per talkSPORT. While Il Messaggero note Lazio need PSG to cover part of Kurzawa’s salary to sign the full-back. Foot Mercato also report his agent has offered him to Watford.

Just before Christmas, Foot Mercato cited West Ham’s interest in a transfer for Paris Saint-Germain outcast Kurzawa originally. They also noted PSG were pushing their €23m (£19m) arrival from Monaco in 2015 to leave, given Pochettino’s position.

West Ham have since contacted Paris Saint-Germain, but Lyon are now a strong competitor for Kurzawa’s transfer. He may also look fondly on replacing Emerson as Bosz’s first-choice.

Kurzawa made his sole outing for the season so far against LOSC Lille in the Trophee des Champions in August. He has also only made one Ligue 1 squad, also coming last August.
