Sky Sports claim Tottenham have rejected an offer from Dutch champions Ajax worth £15million, for Steven Bergwijn. Erik Ten Hag’s side are keen to sign the Netherlands winger, and talks are ongoing to land Bergwijn.
Bergwijn, 24, has struggled at Tottenham. Clocking up 64 appearances in all competitions, the ex-PSV star has managed just five goals in that time – laying on 10 assists. But his form has been incredibly stop start.
This season, he has scored just one goal in 13 games – managing just three substitute appearances in the Premier League since Antonio Conte took over. Injuries have seen his form of late stutter, too.
Lucas Moura is first choice and Spurs are said to be after Wolves ace Adama Traore. So, Bergwijn is likely to be allowed to leave this month. Sky Sports report that Ajax have made an offer worth £15million for Bergwijn.
Tottenham reject Ajax bid: Bergwijn worth more than £15million
The winger cost Tottenham almost double what Ajax are willing to pay – in the region of £27million (BBC). While he is struggling for form, there is still a player there and at 24 – he has plenty of time to resurrect his Spurs spell.
Spurs remain in talks to sign Bergwijn, but given Ajax paid £20million for Seb Haller from West Ham – surely a similar fee is deserving in this case. Spurs are well within their rights to request at least £20million.
If Tottenham do not sell the winger, then there is no issue. He is still a good option for Spurs from the bench and in the cup competitions, acting as cover for Lucas and Son Heung-min, who is currently injured.
