Tottenham are reportedly one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Inter Milan star Stefano Sensi on loan. A player, that labelled Antonio Conte as ‘one of the best’ coaches in world football in 2019.
Sensi, 26, is struggling for game time at Inter. While he was injured for seven games earlier this season, he has only started one of his 11 games in all competitions. Sensi has also remained an unused sub in eight outings.
90Min report that Tottenham are keen to form a reunion between Conte and Sensi – with a loan potentially on the cards for the eight-time Italy star. However, Spurs face competition from other Premier League clubs.
Speaking in 2019 shortly after Conte had arrived as Inter Milan manager, Sensi was full of praise for the gaffer that eventually delivered a 2021 Serie A title. He thinks the Spurs boss is one of the best in the world.
“He is one of the best in the world. You need quality to work with him. Seeing him on the bench raises intensity. The manager was a great player; it is nice to be able to follow his lead,” Sensi told Inter’s website in 2019.
Sensi on Conte: Tottenham reunion would bolster in-need midfield
Conte likes to use a two-man midfield in his 3-4-3 system. But given the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks normally come up against three-man midfields, they need to be hard-working, and intelligent.
Sensi can offer Conte both of those traits. At 5ft 5in, he is not the tallest – but he is intense, aggressive and willing to put in the work. When on the ball, he offers more than Spurs’ current options – able to score and create.
In terms of intelligence, he knows exactly what Conte wants having worked with him for two years. On loan, he might just be the ideal January addition for Spurs in the coming days and weeks.
