Joe Rodon was part of the Tottenham side that limped over the line to beat League One side Morecambe on Sunday. He has struggled for game time and a January exit could come about – but could Spurs use him in a swap?
Rodon, 24, has only played seven times this season in all competitions – only twice since the arrival of Antonio Conte. CBS Sports report that Spurs are open to his permanent exit, if a fee of £20million is tabled for Rodon.
Despite Conte preferring to use three at the back, the form of Eric Dier in the middle of the defence has limited the Wales star. Conte has said himself he only sees Rodon as cover for Dier, and not an option on either side.
The CBS Sports report also suggests that Brighton are pursuing a permanent deal for Rodon this month. So, could Tottenham use that to their advantage – given they are reportedly looking to sign Tariq Lamptey from Brighton?
Should Tottenham include Rodon in deal for Brighton ace Lamptey?
The Express reports that Tottenham are keen on bringing in £50million-rated right-back Lamptey. The ex-Chelsea man has returned from a long-term hamstring problem, and is impressing on Graham Potter’s right.
A fee of £50million would make Lamptey one of Tottenham’s most-expensive signings in the history of the club. A large fee for Daniel Levy to spend, but also for a player that has only played 35 senior career games.
But if Brighton want £20million-rated Rodon, and Tottenham want Lamptey – surely the two sides can come to an agreement to include Rodon for Lamptey? Fabio Paratici is renowned for looking at player-plus-cash deals.
He did so in the summer – spending £21.6million and including Erik Lamela in a deal for Bryan Gil. So, if both clubs are intent on signing Rodon and Lamptey, then it makes sense for Spurs to include the Welshman in a deal.
