Newcastle United have real hope of signing Sevilla defender Diego Carlos with the player believed to be keen on making the move to Tyneside.
The Telegraph report that Diego Carlos would like to sign for Newcastle this month after the Magpies made a move for him.
It’s stated that Newcastle’s bid for Diego Carlos remains active, but progress over the deal is unclear.
The problem is that Sevilla want to extract as much money from Newcastle as possible.
That was always going to happen after Newcastle’s takeover, with clubs very much aware that the Magpies have money to spend.
It’s a similar story with another of Newcastle’s centre back targets with Lille demanding big money for Sven Botman.
Diego Carlos turns 29 in March, and Newcastle have to think very carefully about just how much they want to pay here.

Yes, the Brazilian ace is a quality defender, but the fee required will be huge.
In two or three years, Diego Carlos will most likely be in decline for Newcastle, which will be a concern.
That’s not to say that Newcastle shouldn’t sign him; experience will be vital in this battle against relegation.
Yet if the fee reaches more than £40million, Newcastle may be wise to look elsewhere.
