Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin has responded to Fabrizio Romano’s claim on Twitter that Lucas Digne will not join the Magpies from Everton in the January transfer window.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Romano has claimed on Twitter that Digne will not move to Newcastle this month.

Romano has reported that the left-back will leave Everton in the January transfer window, but there is no way that the 28-year-old will switch to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

Digne’s French compatriot Saint-Maximin has posted the following message in response to Romano’s tweet, which seems to be sarcastic in nature.

Could Lucas Digne join Newcastle?

In our view, it is unlikely that Digne will move to Newcastle from Everton in the January transfer window.

Yes, we have seen reports that Everton manager Rafael Benitez wants to offload the former Barcelona left-back now.

And we have covered claims that Newcastle are keen on the 28-year-old.

However, in our opinion, Digne is not going to be tempted by a move to the Magpies.

With Chelsea and West Ham United also reportedly interested in Digne, the left-back does have better options than Newcastle, who could end up in the Championship at the end of the season.
