Rangers are in a strong position to bring Vitesse Arnhem defender Danilho Doekhi to Ibrox as his contract in the Netherlands runs down.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Rangers have been keen on signing Doekhi for a long time now.

Doekhi is inside the final six months of his Vitesse contract and can now discuss a pre-contract agreement to leave the club.

A number of clubs are believed to be keen on signing Doekhi, but Rangers are ‘in a strong position’ to secure the deal.

Doekhi’s leadership ability is valued highly given that he is Vitesse captain, whilst his ability to play high as a defender.

Doekhi, 23, spent time in the Ajax ranks before heading to Vitesse in 2018.

Now with more than 100 appearances to his name with Vitesse, Doekhi seems ready to make his next big move.

Hailing from Rotterdam just like Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Doekhi fits the bill for Rangers.

Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun are out of contract in the summer, Nikola Katic’s future is unclear and Jack Simpson could leave this month.

Adding a bargain yet quality defender in Doekhi is perfect for Rangers, and they will hope to get the deal done quickly.
