Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Marseille attacker Bamba Dieng – a player who has been likened to Sadio Mane.
Sky Sports claim that Dieng has been put forward to Newcastle as they target new signings this month.
Marseille allegedly want around £12.5million for Dieng this month, with Atalanta also offered the chance to sign him.
Dieng has been in the news this week. The Mirror reported on Wednesday that West Ham United are leading the race for Dieng.
That same report claims that Dieng is viewed as the new Sadio Mane, and the pair will feature together for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations this month.
Dieng, 21, has hit four goals in 14 league games this season, and only seven of those came as a starter.
Dieng clearly has potential, but Newcastle may be after more of an instant impact player.
Callum Wilson’s injury means Newcastle are lacking a proven goal threat in attack, and Dieng doesn’t quite solve that matter.
Beating West Ham to Dieng won’t be easy either, as they can offer European football.
Dieng’s potential for the future is very appealing, especially at £12.5million, but if he is to sign, he can’t be Newcastle’s only attacking addition.
Newcastle must add another, more experienced attacker if they go for Dieng, just to give Eddie Howe a source of goals in the battle against relegation.
