Newcastle United have offered a huge £40million to sign Freiburg defender Nico Schlotterbeck – but he just isn’t interested in a move to Tyneside.
90Min claim that Newcastle have made an approach for Schlotterbeck in the hope of signing him this month.
A classy left-footed centre back, Schlotterbeck makes perfect sense as an alternative target to Sven Botman.
However, whilst Newcastle were willing to pay more than £40million for the German, he isn’t interested.
Freiburg were open to the deal, but England just doesn’t appeal to Schlotterbeck all that much.
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund both want Schlotterbeck, and it’s more likely that he stays in the Bundesliga than heads to the Premier League.
Schlotterbeck, 22, has been coming up through the Freiburg ranks in recent years having signed from Karlsruhe.

Compared to Mats Hummels, Schlotterbeck is thought to Germany’s next great centre back over the coming years.
No wonder Newcastle wanted to sign him.
Sadly for the Magpies, Schlotterbeck won’t be joining Newcastle this month barring a change of heart – and that stance is something they may run into repeatedly.
