Andy Cole has stated ‘for whatever reason’ Kieran Trippier has decided he is going to join Newcastle, but he warned that ‘it might be harder’ for other ‘foreign’ players to join them, as he told Premier League Productions (06/01/22 at 10:55 am).
The former striker thinks it’s going to be a ‘real hard sell’ going to Newcastle and attracting big names and quality to their club given their current situation.
The Magpies are sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone and only have one win to their name this term, after sacking the unpopular Steve Bruce and replacing him with Eddie Howe.
And it seems as though this new Saudi-led ownership of the Magpies is going to kick things off by adding an England international in the quality of Trippier to their ranks, as reported by Sky Sports.
Cole shared his thoughts on how Newcastle’s transfer window could pan out and the suggestions that Trippier is on his way.
“I think it’s going to take more than one player to change things,” said Cole. “The second half of the season, it’s going to be really tough to stay up. But if you bring quality players like that, then you can stay up.
“That’s what they are hoping for (Trippier signing attracts other big names). But I think going to Newcastle now, it’s going to be a real hard sell.
“Trippier has done it, for whatever reason, he believes that Newcastle can stay in the Premier League. But, for other foreign players, it might be harder.”

Trippier is an England international, currently playing for the Spanish champions and a team that’s in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
That is some effort from those at St James’ Park to be able to attract a man of his ilk to their club.
Added with that, it probably sets the quality bar a lot higher than some imagined.
There’s no reason that the financial aspect is a reason behind Trippier joining, but modern football is money crazy and money inflated, so it’s not like others don’t do it.
